Birthplace of Saint Cottolengo

The Cottolengo family that lived in Bra from 1740 to 1994 represents a rich example of history and local culture. Saint Giuseppe Benedetto Cottolengo was born on the 3rd of May 1786 to the parents of Giuseppe Antonio Cottolengo e Benedetta Chiarotti. The birthplace of the saint is a building that recalls the architectural styles belonging to different centuries and was restored to its original beauty by a recent restoration that has faithfully interpreted the true spirit of its diverse ages and the lifestyle of the family who lived there: the saint's study room that reflects his lifestyle, the children's room, the convivial spaces, such as the dining room and the service rooms such as the kitchen, the wine cellar and the stable.
The magnificence of the furnishings and objects of daily life are all meticulously and patiently brought back together with its decorations and official documents, which can be admired throughout the guide.
The guided tour gives an excellent insight into the lives of at least five generations of a wealthy and enlightened bourgeois family.
