1940’S THEATRE WITH AIDA OPERA SCENES

The theatre was born in a bourgeois environment. In middle class families in the evening  adults enjoyed watching reproductions of the famous operas in the evening as there was no television. Even  children attended these shows and they liked them so much that  the toy theatre  became a very common  Christmas gift in 195s0 and 1960s . The characters could be either marionettes or puppets. Marionettes are moved from above by strings, whereas  puppets are moved by  the puppeteer who puts his hand inside the puppet, like a glove as the Gianduja we can see hanging on the wall. This puppet comes from the Lupi family’s puppet theatre in Turin (it is based in Turin in Via Santa Teresa 5 inside an interesting puppet museum)
